Court adjourns PDP Convention suit amid heavy security, media barred

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan on Monday once again adjourned the hearing of a suit seeking to halt the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s planned National Convention, amid heightened security that saw journalists prevented from covering the proceedings.

Justice Ladiran Akintola adjourned the Motion on Notice filed by party member Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, and others, to Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Last week, the court ruled on an ex-parte application permitting the PDP to continue preparations for the convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, and fixed November 10 for the substantive hearing. However, after considering submissions from counsel on both sides on Monday, Justice Akintola directed all parties to file and exchange processes to enable proper commencement of the case.

The claimant is seeking an order restraining Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum; Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (on behalf of the National Convention Organising Committee); and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from taking any action that could frustrate or derail the convention.

The judge consequently adjourned the matter to Wednesday to allow the court resolve all pending applications.

Earlier, the court ordered the PDP leadership to strictly adhere to the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities it had released for the convention.

Meanwhile, journalists arriving at the court were denied entry into the courtroom, as security operatives mounted strategic barricades within the premises, fueling speculation about growing tension surrounding the legal battle over the convention.
