Ikenga Ugochinyere signals exit from PDP over internal party crisis

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has disclosed that he is concluding arrangements to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as deep-rooted problems within the opposition party.

Ugochinyere made the disclosure amid growing internal tensions within the PDP, which have continued to generate public debate over the party’s leadership structure, internal democracy and overall direction ahead of future elections.

Reports have it that the lawmaker expressed dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in the party, stressing that the issues confronting the PDP have made it increasingly difficult for committed members to function effectively.

He reportedly noted that despite repeated efforts by stakeholders to address the lingering crises, the party has failed to implement meaningful reforms capable of restoring unity and confidence among its members nationwide.

Ugochinyere, who has been vocal on national issues and internal party matters, is said to be consulting widely with political associates, constituents and other stakeholders as part of the process leading to his planned defection.

While he did not publicly disclose his next political destination, sources close to the lawmaker hinted that discussions are ongoing with other political platforms that align more closely with his political ideals and legislative agenda.

His possible exit is expected to further intensify conversations around the stability of the PDP, particularly as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions across several states.

The development adds to a growing list of defections and threats of defection from the PDP, raising fresh concerns about the party’s ability to remain a formidable opposition force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
