INEC refutes fake 2027 Election Timetable reports
By Johnson Arua
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied circulating any timetable or schedule for the 2027 general election, describing recent reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued Thursday and signed by INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission clarified that it has not released any election schedule for the 2027 polls, despite claims circulating on various platforms.
INEC emphasized that it strictly follows the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 requires the Commission to publish a notice of election no later than 360 days before a general election. Any timetable released outside this period could not have come from INEC.
The Commission assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 general election will be published in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
Once finalized, it will be made available through INEC’s verified communication channels.
INEC urged the public and media to disregard the false reports and rely solely on information from its official platforms for accurate updates.
