BSUTH Gets Full Accreditation to Train Radiology Residents

The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, has secured full accreditation from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) to train resident doctors in Radiology.

The approval, which followed the 136th meeting of the College Senate held on June 3, 2025, came after a thorough consideration of recommendations by the Faculty Board of Radiology.

According to a statement by the Acting Head of Public Relations and Protocol of the hospital, Moses Tsenzughul, the accreditation was formally conveyed in a letter signed by the Acting Registrar of the NPMCN, Dr. S. S. Sule.

“BSUTH has been granted full accreditation for a period of five years, effective from December 12, 2024,” the statement read. “The approval permits the institution to train 14 residents — four Senior Residents and ten Junior Residents — in the Radiology Department.”

The College explained that the decision was based on the report of an accreditation visitation panel which assessed the hospital’s facilities, manpower, and academic programmes.

It added that the panel commended BSUTH for its commitment to postgraduate medical training and advised management to address minor areas identified for improvement to sustain its accreditation status.

Dr. Sule reaffirmed the College’s readiness to continue partnering with BSUTH in advancing postgraduate medical education and improving the quality of radiology training across the country.

Meanwhile, the hospital management has expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Hwande, for their leadership and unwavering support toward upgrading medical training facilities in the institution.
