Benue govt begins assessment of healthcare service delivery, data quality

The Benue State Government has commenced a comprehensive assessment of service delivery across its healthcare facilities, including a review of data accuracy and the provision of on-the-spot mentorship for health workers.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, led a Joint Supportive Supervisory Visit on Monday to the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC) in Otukpo. He explained that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen quality healthcare delivery and ensure readiness for service integration and sustainability across the state.
According to him, the initiative focuses on evaluating facilities, improving coordination and accountability, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of healthcare programmes.
The delegation included the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mathew Onoja; Acting Executive Secretary of the Benue State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), Dr. Terna; and the Benue State Coordinator of APIN Public Health Initiatives, Dr. Enebi Achimugu.
Receiving the team, the Director of the Primary Health Care Authority, Otukpo Local Government, Mrs. Agnes Okoko, and the Head of Facility, Mrs. Maryam Malikanchi, commended the initiative while highlighting key challenges such as shortages of personnel and inadequate infrastructure.
In response, Dr. Ogwuche applauded the resilience and dedication of health workers and reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to strengthening the state’s primary healthcare system. He assured that ongoing reforms and facility upgrades would guarantee effective, integrated, and sustainable service delivery across communities.
The visit featured departmental inspections, data review sessions, and interactive mentoring with staff, reinforcing the Ministry’s resolve to make quality and accessible healthcare a reality for every citizen of Benue State.
