SLL Programme trains 30 health workers in Anambra on advocacy, communication for improved immunisation

The Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) Programme, funded by Mastercard through the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC), in collaboration with the Red Cross Society and the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, has organised a one-day intensive training for healthcare workers in Anambra State.

Held at the Red Cross Office Complex in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, the training aimed at building the capacity of health personnel on Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation (ACSM) for improved immunisation coverage across communities.

The programme focused on equipping participants with effective communication skills for engaging policymakers, addressing misconceptions, and mobilising community support towards vaccine uptake.

Executive Secretary of the Red Cross, Anambra State Chapter, Engr. Kingsley Okoye, said the training targeted 30 healthcare workers drawn from different local government areas of the state, with emphasis on integrated vaccines administered to children and adults, including Polio, Measles, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Yellow Fever, among others.

He noted that the SLL Programme was designed to promote vaccines and encourage public acceptance, adding that the training was a joint effort between the Red Cross Society and the Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

“This programme is a crucial step towards improving immunisation coverage in Anambra State. By empowering healthcare workers with the right skills and knowledge, the state is one step closer to achieving its public health goals. The collaboration between primary healthcare and the Red Cross is a testament to the power of teamwork in promoting public health,” he stated.
