Chad shut borders with Nigeria over fear of looming US military action

The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing heightened security concerns reportedly linked to alleged United States military plans over ongoing Christian killings and suspected genocide in parts of the West African sub-region.

Military sources in N’Djamena, headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), confirmed on Monday that President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a complete military lockdown along the Nigerian border following intelligence reports suggesting that terrorist elements from northern Nigeria were preparing to flee into Chadian territory.

According to the sources, the Chadian military has been placed on maximum alert, with heavily armed troops and armoured vehicles deployed across strategic border corridors connecting both countries.

President Déby Itno was quoted as saying that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise,” emphasising the government’s resolve to prevent any form of external security threat.

The development comes amid growing regional tension and increasing speculation surrounding alleged U.S. military activities in parts of West Africa.

Security officials maintained that the border closure is a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding Chad’s territorial integrity and blocking potential infiltration by armed groups seeking to exploit instability across the region.
