Police probe death of Afro-Fuji singer Destiny Boy, one suspect arrested

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that a full-scale investigation has commenced into the sudden death of 22-year-old Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy, with the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section.

The police disclosed that one suspect has already been taken into custody as detectives intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young musician’s death. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a statement said the command has begun detailed inquiries, stressing that the transfer of the case to the SCID would allow for a thorough forensic and homicide investigation.

“One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement read, assuring the public that all necessary steps were being taken to establish the facts.

The news of Destiny Boy’s death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and across social media platforms.

Public concern intensified after disturbing videos showing his lifeless body being conveyed surfaced online, sparking outrage and calls for accountability.

Although the family has yet to release an official cause of death, unverified reports and eyewitness accounts circulating online alleged that the singer showed signs of distress shortly before his passing, including reportedly vomiting blood.

Reacting to the development, popular Nigerian singer Ruger expressed concern over what he described as a lack of transparency surrounding the incident.

In a social media post, he questioned the absence of an autopsy report and official clarification on the cause of death.
“No autopsy, nothing! Are we just supposed to accept it like that? Someone has to be held accountable,” Ruger wrote, reflecting the sentiments of many Nigerians demanding answers.

Meanwhile I was gathered that Destiny Boy had, on several occasions before his death, shared posts on his Instagram page featuring the recurring phrase, “Either I make this money or I die young. Money must be made.” The posts have since triggered emotional reactions and renewed debate among fans.

Born Afeez Adesina, Destiny Boy rose to fame after a viral Fuji rendition of Davido’s hit song If, which earned him nationwide attention. He went on to release several tracks that solidified his place in Nigeria’s music scene.

The late singer is survived by his partner and their first child, whom he welcomed in November 2024, making his untimely death even more heartbreaking for fans, family, and colleagues in the industry.
