Terror in Kebbi: How bandits killed Vice Principal, abducted 25 school girls in midnight raid

Armed bandits, operating in large numbers and wielding sophisticated weapons, launched a deadly attack on Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State late Sunday night, abducting at least 25 female students.

Sources from the community said the assailants stormed the school premises under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically as they forced their way in. In the chaos, the school’s Vice Principal was killed, while several unidentified bodies were found within the premises after the assault.

“They came in mass numbers at night, shooting everywhere before they gained access to the school,” a source who pleaded anonymity told reporters, describing the attack as terrifying and overwhelming.

Residents also reported that Nigerian Air Force fighter jets were sighted hovering over the area around 8 a.m. on Monday, as security agencies intensified their response. The school and surrounding community were cordoned off by heavily armed operatives to prevent further incursions.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said a tactical team has been deployed to commence a full-scale rescue operation.

He assured that efforts were underway to safely recover the abducted schoolgirls without harm. Abubakar added that Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has ordered heightened security operations across the area to curb the rising menace of armed banditry.

Security agencies and local authorities continue to work round the clock as parents and residents await updates on the fate of the missing school girls.
