Omo-Agege dumps APC for NDC, declares 2027 Delta Central senate ambition

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally joined the National Democratic Congress, NDC, ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the party.

Omo-Agege’s defection comes barely six days after he resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The former lawmaker said his decision followed weeks of consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across Delta State and the country.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, Omo-Agege said he was convinced that the NDC offers a credible platform capable of addressing the challenges facing Delta State and Nigeria. He said the party is founded on the principles of inclusion, accountability, grassroots participation, and true federalism.

The former Senate Deputy President also confirmed that he would work closely with the party’s presidential hopeful, Mr. Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections. He expressed appreciation to key NDC leaders, including former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson; the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas; and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for their role in his move to the party.

According to him, the call by the people of Delta Central for his return to the Senate played a major role in his decision to seek re-election. He maintained that his ambition was driven by the need to provide effective representation and address the developmental challenges confronting communities in the state.

Omo-Agege lamented the condition of infrastructure and public services in Delta State despite huge federal allocations accruing to the state over the years. He cited poor roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, unemployment, and declining educational standards as evidence of what he described as a failure of leadership.

“Too much of Delta’s wealth sits in accounts while our people suffer from bad roads, collapsed hospitals, and abandoned communities. This is not governance. It is a betrayal of public trust,” he stated.

The former APC chieftain pledged to strengthen the NDC from the grassroots level and prepare the party for victory in the 2027 elections. He said the party would field credible candidates for various elective positions, including the governorship.

Omo-Agege promised that if elected senator, he would push for fair distribution of federal projects, greater accountability in the use of public funds, and policies that promote job creation, support small businesses, improve agriculture, and expand access to healthcare and education.

He also called on youths, women, traditional rulers, and voters across Delta State to actively participate in the political process ahead of the elections, insisting that 2027 would mark a turning point for both Delta State and Nigeria.

“This is a defining moment for Delta State and Nigeria. Together, under the banner of the National Democratic Congress, we will reclaim Delta State and reclaim Nigeria,” he declared.
