Speaking at a press conference in Makurdi, MAKGA convener Ikyem Leonard emphasized that the movement has spent the past year mobilizing support across Benue for the cause of having Kwande produce the next governor.

“Within the last 12 months, we have engaged political leaders across party lines and solicited support for Kwande to produce the governor of Benue State in 2027. We have also seen credible aspirants emerge from Kwande, showing interest in this important position," he said.

Flanked by the other members of the group, MAKGA highlighted the need for competent and experienced candidates from Kwande to step forward ahead of the 2026 political zoning exercises by major parties.

“As we approach 2026, the year political parties will zone positions, MAKGA is carefully reviewing the chances of Kwande producing the governorship. Kwande needs her best materials to come forward to attract the governorship to our region,” he said.

Ikyem singled out Hon. Terseer Ugbor for his track record as a legislator and his contributions to the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency.

“Hon. Ugbor has performed credibly well, representing his people diligently. He has been vocal on critical issues such as insecurity and the welfare of the common man,” Ikyem stated.

The convener noted Ugbor’s development record, highlighting projects across all 26 council wards in his constituency stressing that “in just two years, Hon. Ugbor has executed 10 agricultural empowerment programs, touching every community to boost food production. This is unprecedented in our area."

He further emphasized Ugbor’s role in amending the Student Loans Act signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has facilitated access to higher education for over 20,000 Benue students.

“If someone with no track record could aspire and get votes, how much more Hon. Terseer Ugbor, who has rich experience in both private and public sectors?

“He has the temperament, character, integrity, and vision to unite Benue and move the state forward positively,” he added.

MAKGA described the call for Ugbor to join the governorship race as a demand from his constituents.“This is a call from the people of Kwande, a call to service,” Leonard said.

The movement also commended other notable Kwande sons who have expressed interest in the governorship, including Dr. Pius Akutah, Hon. Terwase Orbunde, Engr. Nick Wende, and Dr. Tersoo Loko.

“We urge other sons and daughters of Kwande with impeccable credentials to step forward. MAKGA, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, will soon review all aspirants for possible adoption and endorsement,” he stated.

Ikyem also explained that the zoning arrangement favours Kwande intermediate area emphasising that by the zoning arrangement Governor Hyacinth Alia could only do a single term to complete the turn of Jechira block which the late  Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu started in order to allow Kwande block take over in 2027 to also complete the single term of the late Ape Aku.

The movement pledged to intensify its efforts to ensure the governorship is zoned to Kwande in 2026 while urging the people of Benue to engage in lawful political activities.

“We wish Benue people a prosperous 2026 and charge them to avoid the use of thugs or unlawful tendencies in politics,” the Convener added.
