I'm too big to dump ADC in secret - Suswam

Former Benue State Governor and Distinguished Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam has dismissed speculations about his alleged defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the reports as “baseless, insulting, and completely unfounded.”

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the residence of Prof. Saasongo Nongu in Makurdi, Senator Suswam declared emphatically that he remains a proud and committed member of the ADC, stressing that he has no intention of abandoning the party he helped to build.

“I am too big to dump ADC in secret. Leaving the party quietly would be the peak of disgrace to my personality and a betrayal to my loyalists,” the former governor stated, reaffirming his dedication to strengthening the party and ensuring its growth across Benue State and beyond.

The visit, which drew a large turnout of party faithful and supporters, also featured Hon. Benjamin Mzondu, former member of the House of Representatives for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, who accompanied Senator Suswam.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement and renewed optimism among ADC supporters, as the senator’s presence dispelled lingering doubts over his continued loyalty to the party.

Senator Suswam, who described his host, Prof. Nongu, as a man of courage and hard work, commended Hon. Mzondu as a visionary young leader well-prepared to take over from the older generation of politicians.

He urged ADC members to rally behind Hon. Mzondu, assuring them that the former federal lawmaker possesses the vision and character to sustain the party’s ideals even in his (Suswam’s) absence.

In his remarks, Hon. Mzondu expressed profound gratitude to Senator Suswam for his mentorship and guidance, pledging continued loyalty to the party and its leadership.

“Senator Suswam has been a political father to me. His wisdom and leadership have shown me the right path to follow, and I remain loyal to him and the cause of our great party,” he said.

Speakers from the five components of Makurdi and Guma Federal Constituency, including Hon. David Tsevende, Prof. Cletus Tyokyaa, Hon. Mrs. Dorcas Mlumun, Hon. Musa Platu, Hon. Joe Akaaza, and Hon. Ayokyenge, commended the leadership of Senator Suswam and Hon. Mzondu, pledging continued support for the ADC.

In a vote of thanks, Hon. Mrs. Nong praised Senator Suswam as “a true lover of the Lobi and Gwer people” who empowered many politically and economically. She also lauded Hon. Mzondu’s record of impactful representation in the National Assembly, praying for more opportunities for him to serve.

The event ended on a note of unity and renewed faith in the ADC’s leadership, with supporters expressing optimism about the party’s future under the guiding influence of Senator Suswam and Hon. Mzondu.
