Unijos Alumni demands urgent rescue of graduate abducted on Jos–Kaduna highway as kidnappers demand ₦30m ransom

The University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) has raised alarm over the abduction of one of its members, fresh graduate John Arum Azi, urging security agencies to secure his immediate release.

In a statement on Tuesday, Global President Gad Shamaki Peter described the incident as deeply personal, stressing that “this is one of our own” and calling for urgent action from authorities.

Arum Azi, a Plateau State indigene, was kidnapped by suspected bandits along the Jos–Kaduna highway while travelling to Kaduna for a business engagement involving musical equipment repair. His abductors are reportedly demanding ₦30 million ransom.

A viral video circulating online has sparked outrage, showing the victim being assaulted and forced to plead for his life while armed men threatened him.

His employer, Mr. Jethro Akau, described him as a diligent and promising young technician who had recently completed his studies and was awaiting NYSC mobilisation. He appealed for his humane treatment and safe release.

UJAA also called on members and the public to sustain pressure on authorities while sharing information responsibly, reaffirming that “when one Josite is in distress, all stand together.”

Security agencies are yet to issue an official response as calls mount for urgent intervention amid rising cases of kidnappings along major highways.
