Benue SUBEB Boss advocates stronger ABEP implementation at National Dialogue

The Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has pointed out the transformative potential of Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) ABEP as a strategic pathway for integrating over-age and out-of-school learners into the formal education system.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman on Corporate Communications and Community Engagements, Msughter Ataigbough said she spoke during her presentation when she joined national policymakers, education experts, and development partners at the National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the Review of the Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) Curriculum, in Abuja.

The statement explained that the event was convened by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) in partnership with TaRL Africa Nigeria.

Addressing participants, Dr. Adagba underscored the need for strong advocacy at the state level to boost awareness, foster ownership, and drive coordinated implementation across Nigeria’s sub-national governments.

“ABEP has the potential to transform lives by ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing basic education.

"Success depends on collaboration between federal and state authorities and active community engagement to reach every learner," the Executive Chairman said.

Dr. Adagba also shared that Benue State is taking concrete steps to align with ABEP goals through the launch of Project BRACE-UP (Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Un-enrolled Pupils), an initiative aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

The dialogue is part of the Federal Ministry of Education’s drive to build a shared understanding of the ABEP curriculum review process and strengthen state-level ownership, ensuring effective implementation nationwide.
