Fuji legend KWAM1 seeks court injunction over Awujale succession in Ijebuland

Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has dragged the Ogun State government and five others to court, seeking to halt the ongoing process of installing a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

The singer and cultural figure filed the suit at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, requesting an interim injunction to restrain Governor Dapo Abiodun and other respondents from taking any further steps in the succession process. The other respondents include the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

KWAM1, who has declared his interest in ascending the vacant Awujale stool, claims lineage from the Jadiara Royal House of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. However, his claim has been disputed by members of the ruling house, who maintain that he has no ancestral connection to the Fusengbuwa line.

In a motion ex parte filed under Suit No. HC3/238/2025 before High Court 2, Ayinde cited relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024, the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction in seeking the injunction.

Dated December 16, the application requests that the respondents be restrained from proceeding with the selection of the Awujale until the substantive suit is heard and determined. KWAM1 argued that the injunction is crucial to protect his interests and prevent any alteration or dissipation of the matter at stake.

As of the time of filing, the court has yet to fix a date for the hearing of the case.
