Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, has been re-elected for another four-year term, defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by 66,252 votes.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes in the governorship election held across the state on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The governor won in 19 of the 30 local government areas declared, while the APC candidate emerged victorious in 11 local government areas.
Announcing the final result at 7:49am on Sunday, the Chief Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner.
Ogunwole said: “Adeleke Ademola of the Accord Party, having certified the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected.”
Adeleke recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife Central, Ife East, Ila, Boluwaduro, Irepodun, Ayedire, Ejigbo, Ayedaade, Ifelodun, Ife North, Ilesa West, Egbedore, Orolu, Oriade, Ifedayo, Odo-Otin and Iwo local government areas.
Oyebamiji, however, won in Boripe, Ife South, Ilesa East, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa and Olorunda local government areas.
The election was contested by 15 political parties and recorded a large turnout of voters despite concerns and reports of violence during the campaign period.
Reacting to the outcome, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his re-election, saying the victory confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State had in the governor.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said he had called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory and wished him success as he prepares to govern the state for another four years.
The President urged Adeleke to use his victory to unite the people of Osun State and mobilise them for growth, stability and social and economic progress, irrespective of how they voted.
Tinubu also commended the other contestants for their courage and discipline, saying their participation had strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture.
He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
