Benue Police thwart Christmas-Day kidnap, rescue victim safely

In a timely operation early Thursday, December 25, 2025, the Benue State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnap attempt, rescuing a victim unharmed along the Tiortu area.

The victim, identified as Akume Geoffrey, was traveling from Gboko to Makurdi when he was confronted by armed men suspected to be kidnappers at around 3am.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent, Udeme Edet in a statement said the assailants reportedly tried to force him into a nearby thick forest before police patrols arrived on the scene.

“The suspects fled immediately upon sighting our officers and hearing the sirens, leaving the victim behind,” said the Benue State Police Command in a statement. “Our operatives were able to rescue him unharmed and without any ransom being demanded.”

Geoffrey was taken to Abinse Police Station, where he was debriefed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ifeanyi Emenari,  before being safely reunited with his family.

CP Emenari commended the swift and professional response of his officers. “I commend the courage and dedication of our operatives. This incident demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, especially during festive periods,” he said.

The Commissioner also reassured the public that security operations across the state have been intensified. “Patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led policing have been strengthened at key locations.

We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately,” CP Emenari added.
Police are continuing efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
