Tinubu meets Sultan of Sokoto amid global concerns over religious freedom

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The engagement, held in the President’s first-floor office, forms part of ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders following recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, who described Nigeria as a nation grappling with religious persecution and human rights violations.
The Sultan was accompanied by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, to what sources described as a “crucial” meeting.
Earlier in the week, President Tinubu also met with the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, as the presidency intensifies efforts to address rising international concerns over religious freedom and insecurity in the country.
