The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, FCT Sector Command has secured the conviction of a motorist, Moses Omokaiye Peter, for multiple traffic offences, including using a mobile phone while driving, dangerous driving, assaulting a marshal on duty and absconding with an officer.

Peter was arraigned before the Magistrate of the FRSC Mobile Court sitting at the FCT Sector Command, Abuja, His Worship Abubakar Jega, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Following the proceedings, the court sentenced him to five days of community service, a fine of N300,000 and suspension of his driver's licence for three months.

The conviction was secured in accordance with Regulation 65 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, NRTR, 2012.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the case stemmed from an incident that occurred at about 11am on the same day during a Mobile Court operation at the FCT Sector Command.

The Corps said the defendant allegedly attempted to evade arrest by absconding with the arresting marshal, an action which resulted in the additional charge of assaulting a marshal on duty.

Reacting to the judgement, Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the court for the decision and reiterated that enforcement personnel carrying out their lawful duties must be treated with respect.

Mohammed warned that attempts to evade arrest, obstruct enforcement operations or assault a marshal would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He also reminded motorists that the use of mobile phones while driving, as well as other dangerous driving practices, puts the lives of motorists, passengers and other road users at risk.

The Corps Marshal said the FRSC would continue to enforce traffic regulations and ensure that motorists who violate road safety laws face appropriate sanctions.

The statement was signed by Osondu Ohaeri, Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Headquarters, Abuja.
