Residents raise alarm over worsening cases of kidnapping threats, motorcycle theft, others in Benue community

Residents of Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State are living in fear following a spike in criminal activities, including kidnapping threats, motorcycle theft, and suspected cult operations.
A resident told our correspondent that many people have recently received calls from unknown individuals demanding money and threatening abduction.
He added that a suspected cult group reportedly holds frequent meetings at a shop near the former SSS office along the Yam Market bypass, raising further concerns.
Motorcycle snatching has also increased, mostly at night, forcing residents to limit movement after dark. In one incident, a POS operator allegedly paid ₦100,000 after being threatened with kidnapping.
Residents are appealing for urgent intervention from security agencies, saying the situation is worsening and endangering lives.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful at press time.
