Suspected gun runner disappears with N95m meant for arms supply to andits in Katsina

A suspected gun runner has allegedly disappeared with N95 million after collecting the money from a bandit leader to procure firearms in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The allegation was made by the member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu, popularly known as General, during an interview with NTA Hausa.

According to the lawmaker, the suspect received the money from a local bandit kingpin with a promise to supply high-grade weapons but absconded with the entire sum without delivering the firearms.

Aliyu said the suspect has not been seen since collecting the money, adding that the incident has generated concern amid worsening insecurity in the area.

He linked the development to reports that a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Maha, recently withdrew from local peace agreements in the Matazu axis.

The lawmaker alleged that since abandoning the truce, the bandit kingpin has imposed heavy livestock levies on several neighbouring communities, worsening the security situation and increasing hardship for residents.

The incident, if confirmed, underscores the risks associated with illicit arms transactions and the internal vulnerabilities within criminal networks operating in the region.

Authorities have yet to officially comment on the allegations or announce any investigation into the reported disappearance of the suspected gun runner.
