Davido fires back at Edo Gov over criticism of uncle Adeleke

Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hit back at Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following the governor’s criticism of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The development followed comments by Okpebholo at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally held on Thursday in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as “Ambo.”

Speaking to party supporters, the Edo governor mocked Adeleke over his penchant for dancing at public events, questioning whether the Osun governor’s dancing was distracting him from the business of governance.

“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.

Okpebholo also described Adeleke as a friend of former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, urging Osun voters to reject the incumbent governor.

“That man is Obaseki’s friend. You know we kicked Obaseki out of Edo. So, we have to kick his friend out of this place too,” he said.
Responding shortly after the rally, Davido, who was in Osun State for the final phase of Adeleke’s re-election campaign, appeared to take a swipe at Okpebholo.

Rather than issuing a direct statement, the singer posted on his Instagram page an old WAEC result that has previously circulated online and was purportedly linked to the Edo governor.

The document allegedly indicated that the candidate passed only one of seven subjects. However, the authenticity and provenance of the document could not be independently verified.

Davido’s post was widely interpreted by social media users as a response to Okpebholo’s remarks and criticism of his uncle.

The exchange has since sparked reactions across social media, with supporters and critics of both politicians weighing in on the growing political disagreement ahead of the Osun governorship election.
