Dr. Adagba showcases North Central’s Basic Education milestones at UBEC quarterly meeting

The Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, is participating in the 29th Quarterly Meeting of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Management with Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs, holding at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja.

At the meeting, Dr. Adagba, in her capacity as Dean of North Central SUBEB Executive Chairmen, presented the zone’s performance report, highlighting significant strides in basic education development.

Presenting the regional scorecard, she disclosed that in 2025 alone, the North Central zone constructed 1,159 new classrooms and renovated 2,034 others to ease overcrowding in schools.

“In addition to expanding infrastructure, the construction of toilets and boreholes has significantly improved water, sanitation and hygiene conditions in our schools,” she said.

In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman on Corporate Communications and Community Engagements, Msughter Ataigbough, Dr. Adagba noted that 7,963 schools across the zone have been fenced, while 116,787 pieces of learner furniture were provided to enhance safety and create a more conducive learning environment.

Dr. Adagba further revealed that Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) centres have increased across the zone, alongside notable improvements in teacher training and textbook distribution.

She added that classroom support has been strengthened through the deployment of community tutors and the recruitment of additional teachers to bridge existing staffing gaps.

According to her, other milestones include the conduct of a digital annual census, hosting of Basic Education Summits, the flag-off of the Learners Support Programme, distribution of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs), and the launch of Project BRACE-UP aimed at addressing the challenge of out-of-school children.

Dr. Adagba called for renewed commitment from SUBEB Chairmen, particularly in identifying out-of-school children and advancing the digitisation of education data systems, with support from UBEC and the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE).

A major highlight of the meeting was the launch of the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAPMS) by UBEC.
