Regina Daniels’ family gives Senator Ned Nwoko 48 hours to accept bride price, alleges harassment of relatives

Family members of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, demanding that he accept the bride price paid on her behalf. They also called on him to end what they described as harassment of her relatives.

The demand was contained in an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of members of the community, accusing Senator Nwoko of allegedly disregarding Ogwashi-Uku cultural values and using his political influence against Regina’s family.

“With due respect to your office and person, we must express deep disappointment over your recent actions concerning our sister and her family. As a people, we value peace, fairness, and respect for our cultural traditions,” part of the letter read.

The group explained that according to local tradition, marriage cannot be enforced. Once a woman decides to leave, her family must return the bride price for the union to be formally dissolved. They alleged that Regina’s family had made several attempts to refund the bride price, but the senator repeatedly refused to accept it.

They warned that if he continues to reject the payment, the bride price would be deposited at Ikeleke Quarter in Ogwashi-Uku, signifying—by custom—that the marriage has officially ended.

The community also condemned the alleged arrest and intimidation of the actress’s relatives, describing the actions as oppressive and an affront to longstanding cultural norms. The letter, shared online by Regina’s elder brother, Sweezzy, and actor Stanley Ontop, urged Senator Nwoko to show respect for tradition and facilitate the release of all detained family members.

Earlier in the week, Regina Daniels alleged that her estranged husband ordered the arrest of her brother and sister after she refused to return to him.

Regina and Senator Nwoko married in 2019 and have two sons. As of the time of filing this report, the senator has yet to respond to the letter.
