Pastor recounts how wife abandoned family after U.S. trip, remarried abroad

A Nigerian pastor has narrated how his 23-year marriage collapsed after his wife travelled to the United States for a religious programme and never returned home.

Speaking before a congregation, the clergyman explained that he and his wife were invited to attend a programme organised by the Morris Cerullo Ministry in 2016. Due to business commitments and family responsibilities, he encouraged his wife to attend alone and sponsored her trip.

“I told my wife that since she was not working and I was busy taking care of the family, she should be the one to travel,” he said, disclosing that he paid for her flight ticket and prepared her for the trip.

On her return two months later, the pastor noticed what he described as a sudden change in her behaviour. According to him, she repeatedly complained about life in Nigeria and expressed a strong desire to return to the United States.

Out of support for her calling and ministry work, he sold his car and raised funds for her to travel again, especially since she held a two-year visa. She subsequently returned to the U.S. in 2017.

“That was the last time I saw her,” he lamented. “Nigeria became disgusting to her. Since she went back, I haven’t seen her again.”

The pastor, who said they were married for 23 years with five children, recalled serving in his church for more than two decades as a Sunday school and JFC teacher, while his wife was a full-time pastor.

He added that reports later reached him that she had remarried in the United States, bringing a painful end to their relationship.

The emotional testimony has sparked reactions across social media, with many sympathising with the clergyman over what they described as a heartbreaking betrayal.
