Man allegedly kills wife in Ogun, found dead hours later in suspected suicide

A tragic incident unfolded in Ogun State as a middle-aged man, identified as Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale, was found dead in a suspected suicide, hours after allegedly murdering his wife, Ayobami, at their apartment in River Valley Estate.

According to reports, Ayanwale allegedly stabbed his wife, a mother of three, multiple times on Thursday, January 8, following a heated argument.

Neighbors recalled hearing loud noises from the couple’s home and rushed to intervene, only to find Ayobami lying in a pool of blood.
Eyewitnesses said they immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. On the way, she reportedly asked for water and questioned why her husband had attacked her.

Despite their efforts, doctors later confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries, which included stab wounds near her lungs that severely impaired her breathing.

Distressed neighbors added that Ayanwale returned to the apartment after the attack to clean up the blood.

The deceased’s brother revealed that Ayobami was stabbed five times—to her chest, back, and breast—in the presence of their three children.

Shockingly, less than 12 hours after the killing, Ayanwale was discovered gasping for breath in an open field in the Sotubo area on Friday, January 9, and was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Authorities recovered a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card at the scene.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident through spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stating that an official statement would be released soon.

This tragedy has left neighbors and the community in mourning, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic disputes.
