Suspected bandits believed to be linked to the Lakurawa terror group have reportedly kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bambu.

The incident occurred on Friday evening in Bambu’s hometown of Bagudo, located in Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, said he has contacted the state Director of Security for details and that efforts are underway to secure the lawmaker’s safe release.

“Yes, I just received information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening.

“I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state. Once I get the details of what transpired, I will brief you on the government’s position.”

He assured that the state government is “on top of the situation” and working to ensure Bambu’s safe return.
