Gov Zulum laments as five killed, dozens injured in suicide bombing at Gamboru Mosque in Maiduguri

At least five people were confirmed dead, while over 45 others sustained injuries in a suicide attack at the Gamboru market mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred as worshippers were performing the Maghrib prayer, turning a moment of devotion into one of tragedy.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing it as “utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane.” Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum expressed his profound condolences to the families of the victims.

“Attacking a place of worship is a desecration of the sanctity of the mosque at a time when Muslim faithful are performing acts of worship,” Governor Zulum stated. He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Governor Zulum also called for increased vigilance and heightened security measures, particularly in places of worship, as the festive period approaches.

“Adequate measures have been taken to forestall any security breach during the festive period and beyond,” he assured.

The attack has once again raised concerns over security in Borno State, where insurgent activities have often targeted both civilian and religious spaces. Local authorities have launched investigations into the bombing, and security agencies are intensifying patrols to prevent further incidents.

Residents and worshippers in Maiduguri have been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to security forces.
