The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially affirmed the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, as its consensus candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.

The declaration took place on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during a special party congress attended by top leaders, stakeholders, and delegates from across the state.

The motion for Oyebanji’s adoption was moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and was seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye.

The decision to adopt Oyebanji as the consensus candidate, party leaders said, followed wide consultations and the governor’s outstanding performance since assuming office.

In his address, the Chairman of the Affirmation Congress Committee, Ahmed Ododo, described the event as a testament to Oyebanji’s effective leadership and the unity within the APC in Ekiti State.

Ododo, who is also the Governor of Kogi State, commended Oyebanji for his achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, and governance reforms that have positively impacted the lives of the people.

He said the affirmation was not just a political gesture but a recognition of the governor’s “giant strides across all sectors” and his commitment to inclusive governance.

According to him, the APC in Ekiti has remained a disciplined and cohesive party, which is why residents continue to express confidence in its leadership.

Party leaders and supporters at the event pledged their unwavering support for Oyebanji’s re-election bid, expressing optimism that his continuity would further consolidate the progress recorded under the APC administration.

The congress concluded with a resounding endorsement of Governor Oyebanji’s candidacy, setting the stage for a united and formidable APC ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
