CAF bans Eto’o for four AFCON matches, slams $20,000 fine over misconduct

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed a four-match stadium ban and a $20,000 fine to the President of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils, over misconduct during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to a statement issued by CAF, the sanctions followed a disciplinary hearing arising from the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 fixture between Morocco and Cameroon, played in Rabat on January 9, 2026.

The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the former Cameroon international for misconduct related to his conduct during the match, which was deemed contrary to the governing body’s rules.

CAF said the Disciplinary Board found Eto’o guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship as stipulated in Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes, as well as Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

As a result of the ruling, Eto’o has been banned from accessing stadiums for the next four official CAF matches played in the context of the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025.

In addition to the stadium ban, the Disciplinary Board imposed a fine of 20,000 United States dollars on the FECAFOOT president.

CAF noted that the decision takes immediate effect and applies strictly within the framework of the ongoing AFCON Morocco 2025 competition.

The continental football body, however, stated that it would make no further comment on the matter.
