NARD suspends nationwide strike after Vice President Shettima’s Intervention

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike following the intervention of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who stepped in to address key concerns raised by the doctors.

Confirming the development on Sunday, NARD National President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, said the decision was taken after the Vice President contacted the association’s leadership and issued directives that helped resolve several outstanding issues, while requesting more time to tackle others.

According to Suleiman, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the association met shortly after the intervention and agreed to halt the strike action, which was scheduled to commence today.

“Following his intervention, the National Executive Council, NEC, of the association convened and unanimously resolved to respect the President’s efforts and halt the strike action that was scheduled to begin tomorrow,” he said.

“This decision was reached just a few hours ago, and more information will be communicated shortly,” he stressed.

He added that a detailed communiqué outlining the resolutions reached and the next steps would be issued in the coming days.

“Once I am fully recovered, I will also address the press to explain these issues in greater detail. For now, we are giving the government additional time to act in good faith,” Suleiman stated.

The suspension provides temporary relief to millions of Nigerians who rely on public health facilities, while negotiations continue to prevent a full disruption of medical services across the country.
