Benue 2027: Alia gives appointees March 30 resignation deadline

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed all political appointees in his administration with ambitions to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions on or before March 30, 2026.

The governor said the move is part of efforts to safeguard the momentum of development in the state and prevent any disruption in governance caused by political distractions.

Alia who made the announcement during an Iftar dinner with Muslim faithful explained that the deadline would allow his administration to identify and appoint suitable replacements in good time to ensure continuity in service delivery.

“The earlier those who intend to contest tender their resignation letters, the better for the system, as it gives room to bring in others to continue the work without delay,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s focus on infrastructure development and improved welfare for civil servants, describing these as key indicators of progress in the state.

“When you see earthmoving machines fixing roads that were once in terrible condition, that is development. When workers go about their duties and return home satisfied, that is also development,” he stated.

Alia further called on residents of the state to support his vision of transforming Benue into an attractive and thriving destination.

“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can build a Benue that will attract everyone,” he said.

He maintained that his administration remains committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people, insisting that no form of opposition or distraction would derail his plans.

“I have begun this journey, I am halfway through, and I am even more determined to achieve greater results because that is the covenant I made with the people of Benue State.

“My focus is on making the people happy and rewriting the story of the state for the better. Nothing will stop me, and no one will frustrate me into abandoning this mission,” the governor declared.
