The Nigeria Police Force has paraded two medical doctors and two other suspects over alleged kidney harvesting and related offences in Karu, Abuja.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Ode, 23; Dr Benjamin Oyime, 48, a nephrologist and consultant to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja; Dr Daniel Otukpa, 53, also a nephrologist and Acting Director of Clinical Services at Wellington Hospital; and David Idoko, 25.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued weekend.
According to Iniedu, Ode allegedly confessed during interrogation to recruiting victims under false pretences.
The police said the investigation was ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged organ-harvesting operation and determine the roles played by each of the suspects.
The development has raised renewed concerns over the activities of criminal networks involved in illegal organ trafficking and the exploitation of unsuspecting victims.
The police assured that further details would be made public as investigations progress.
