Yahaya Bello honors Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi at 8-day prayer session, praises legacy of peace and compassion

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has paid heartfelt tribute to the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing him as a God-fearing, compassionate, and peace-loving statesman whose life was devoted to the service of Allah and humanity.

Speaking on Wednesday in Bauchi State during the ongoing three-day prayer session in honor of the departed cleric, Bello reflected on his long-standing personal bond with Sheikh Dahiru. He recalled that, during his tenure as governor, he had the privilege of hosting the revered scholar in Kogi State on multiple occasions.

“Sheikh Dahiru consistently prayed for the peace, unity, and progress of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole,” Bello said in Hausa, emphasizing that the scholar’s spiritual counsel transcended ethnic, religious, and political divides until his passing.

Bello highlighted that Sheikh Dahiru’s teachings were rooted in peaceful coexistence, compassion for the less privileged, moral integrity, and strict adherence to Islamic principles grounded in love and tolerance. He described the loss as monumental, not only for the Muslim Ummah but for the nation at large, which benefited from the cleric’s enduring advocacy for harmony and mutual respect.

The former governor attended the solemn gathering alongside Senator Abubakar Ohere, Abubakar Rajab, his former Deputy Chief of Staff, Isah Omade, Sheikh Abdulkudus, and other distinguished guests. They were warmly received by Deputy Governor Mohammed Auwal Jatau, representing the Bauchi State Government.

Also addressing the gathering, Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Dr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, called on Muslims to emulate the timeless virtues exemplified by Sheikh Dahiru. He described the late cleric as a man of immense compassion, whose life and teachings reflected the true essence of Islam, peace, love, humility, and service to humanity. The Emir stressed that Sheikh Dahiru’s approach to preaching Islam with wisdom and tolerance remains a legacy worthy of reflection and imitation.

Following the prayer session, former Governor Bello welcomed prominent northern leaders and stakeholders at his lodge, including Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, Senator Adamu Aliero, and other eminent personalities who had come to offer condolences to the late Sheikh’s family, followers, and the government and people of Bauchi State.

Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi passed away at the age of 98 on November 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual guidance, compassion, and commitment to peace.
