Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, widow of former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has officially secured her nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the Imo East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The forms were reportedly obtained on Thursday by her supporters at the national headquarters of the Labour Party in Abuja, signalling her formal entry into the race.

If elected, she would represent Imo East Senatorial District in the Senate, taking over from the incumbent lawmaker, Ezenwa Onyewuchi.

Her move into the senatorial contest comes shortly after she joined the Labour Party, a development that has been interpreted as part of her growing political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Her candidacy is already generating interest within political circles in Imo State, as early preparations for the next election cycle begin to take shape.
