The African Democratic Congress, ADC, senatorial candidate for Benue South, Dr David Olofu, has called for renewed unity, mutual respect and commitment to the common good as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Olofu, in a goodwill message signed by his Director of Media, James Ibechi, congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Benue South, saying the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey and the future it must build for generations yet unborn.
He said despite the difficulties Nigeria had encountered since independence, the resilience and sacrifices of ordinary Nigerians had continued to keep the country moving.
“Nigeria’s challenges are real, but so are the talent, resources and possibilities that abound across the country,” Olofu said.
According to him, the anniversary should go beyond celebration and serve as a moment for Nigerians to consider the kind of country they want to bequeath to future generations.
He said his vision for Benue South was anchored on security, human capital development and economic opportunities, with emphasis on giving the people a stronger voice in determining their future.
Olofu also proposed the establishment of a Benue South Peoples Assembly and Peoples Council, which he said would provide platforms for traditional rulers, professionals, women, youths, faith-based organisations and other stakeholders to participate in development planning, project monitoring and constructive dialogue.
He said greater investment was also needed in agriculture, education, healthcare, enterprise and infrastructure to improve the wellbeing and economic prospects of the people.
The ADC candidate saluted farmers, traders, artisans, teachers, professionals, civil servants, entrepreneurs, students and other Nigerians whose daily efforts, he said, continued to sustain communities and keep hope alive.
He called for greater unity and mutual respect among Nigerians, urging citizens to remain committed to the common good.
Olofu said the country’s future could be strengthened by harnessing its human and natural resources and creating opportunities that would enable citizens to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He expressed hope that the 66th Independence Anniversary would renew Nigerians’ faith in the country and strengthen their determination to build a nation worthy of the sacrifices made by those who secured its freedom.
“May this anniversary renew our faith in Nigeria and strengthen our resolve to build a nation worthy of the sacrifices of those who secured our freedom,” he said.
