Eight members of the Kyegh family have reportedly lost their lives after the vehicle they were traveling in plunged into River Dura in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
According to sources, the family had recently lost a relative and were midweek traveling to make final arrangements for the burial when the tragic accident occurred.
A source said, “The victims were traveling together to finalize burial arrangements for a relative when the accident happened. The vehicle plunged into River Dura, and tragically, all eight passengers lost their lives. The incident has sent waves of grief across the community, with neighbors and relatives mourning the scale of the loss.”
In the wake of the tragedy, the Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government, Mr. Dennis Guda, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences. Describing the incident as “a heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown the entire Vandeikya Local Government into deep mourning,” he consoled the family and pledged support.
Mr. Guda also covered all mortuary bills and donated eight caskets to aid the family in preparing for the burial of the deceased. He stated, “No family deserves to go through such an unimaginable tragedy alone. We are one people, and their pain is our pain. The council stands firmly with them in this moment of grief.”
The incident has left the community in shock, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss of so many lives in a single accident.
