John Terry slams Chelsea over Maresca sack

Chelsea legend John Terry has described the club’s decision to part ways with head coach Enzo Maresca as “disappointing” and unexpected.

Chelsea confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Maresca had left his role by mutual consent, barely six months after guiding the Blues to victory at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Reacting to the development on TikTok, Terry admitted he was shocked by the announcement, saying he had been flooded with calls since the news broke.

“Enzo Maresca has just been sacked by Chelsea and, to be honest, I’m completely shocked. I didn’t see it coming,” Terry said.

“I’ve had so many phone calls this morning after the news, and everyone expects me to know what’s happening. I honestly don’t have a clue.

“I’m not involved with the first team, so I don’t know the full story. I’m disappointed, but there is still a lot to play for this season — the Champions League and the Carabao Cup.

Whoever comes in has a lot on the line. As players, you just have to get on with it, step up and deal with it.”

Despite winning both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, Maresca’s exit followed weeks of speculation over his strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy.

Reports suggested the Italian coach was unhappy with what he perceived as constant interference in recruitment decisions and squad planning.

The situation was said to have worsened after a poor run of Premier League results, which saw Chelsea slip out of the top-four race, even though they remained competitive across multiple tournaments.
