Ex-Edo Education Commissioner Paddy Iyamu declares for Oredo Federal Constituency Seat

Shortly after resigning as Edo State Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu has officially announced his desire to contest for the Oredo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Iyamu made the declaration at the APC Secretariat in Oredo Local Government Area, in the presence of party leaders and supporters, including former Edo State House of Assembly Speaker Uyi Igbe, ex-lawmaker Patrick Obahiagbon, and former State Youth Leader Valentine Asue.

Addressing the gathering, Iyamu dismissed speculations questioning his loyalty to the APC, emphasizing his active membership in the party since 2016.

“I have been in this party since 2016, supporting it with all I have. Those who know Osagie Ize-Iyamu can attest to my commitment to building the party and supporting our candidates,” he stated.

He highlighted his contributions during past elections, including the 2020 and 2024 cycles, where he played key roles in mobilizing grassroots support and providing financial backing for youth leaders across Oredo.

Confident in his chances, Iyamu pointed to his achievements while in office and ongoing contributions to constituency development alongside political partners such as Monday Okpebholo. “The turnout here today reflects the confidence the people have in me. If entrusted with this seat, we will do even more for our constituents,” he said.

Iyamu also underscored his grassroots connection through empowerment programs for women and youths. Since 2019, he has sustained initiatives supporting small businesses and families, including monthly schemes in Ward 10.

He dismissed claims of rejection at the ward level as false and politically motivated.

Earlier, APC Oredo Chairman Dr. Osamudiamen Osarenkhoe called for unity within the party, praising Iyamu as a loyal member who respects party leadership and processes.

“Power belongs to God. If it is his turn, no one can stop it. We must avoid internal conflicts and work together to strengthen the party,” Osarenkhoe said.
