Police confirm Kajuru abduction, deploy tactical units for rescue operation

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that an abduction incident did occur at Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following initial confusion surrounding reports of the incident.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Force said it was aware of the fear and anxiety generated by early reports of the abduction and assured Nigerians that the safety of citizens remains a top priority.

According to the statement, the Kaduna State Security Council was convened by Governor Uba Sani after the report surfaced.

However, during the meeting at the Government House in Kaduna, some individuals from the affected local government area reportedly disputed the incident, describing it as false, despite an earlier police confirmation.

The Police explained that the contradiction created uncertainty and underscored the need for careful verification before issuing definitive public statements on such sensitive security matters.

“The comments made by the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, during a media interaction were intended to prevent unnecessary panic while facts were being confirmed,” the statement said.

“Those remarks, which have since been widely misinterpreted, were not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field.”

The Force said subsequent verification from operational units and intelligence sources has now confirmed that the abduction indeed took place.

Following the confirmation, the Nigeria Police Force activated coordinated security operations in collaboration with other security agencies, with a focus on rescuing the victims and restoring calm in the area.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the full deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and neighbouring communities.

“The deployment includes tactical units, intensified patrols, targeted search-and-rescue operations, and proactive measures to protect lives and property,” the statement added.

The Police also appealed to members of the public and the media to exercise patience and cooperate with security agencies, urging reliance on official police communications for verified information.

The Force warned against speculation and sensational reporting, noting that such actions could jeopardise ongoing operations and heighten public anxiety.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the safety of all citizens and will continue to provide updates as developments unfold,” the statement concluded.
