2027: Olofu promises technology-driven security, coordinated development in Benue South

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, senatorial candidate for Benue South, Dr. David Olofu, has attributed the persistent insecurity in the district to the absence of a well-defined and coordinated strategy to address the challenge.
Olofu, a former Commissioner for Finance in Benue State, said security and the welfare of constituents would be at the centre of his legislative agenda if elected to represent the district in the Senate in 2027.
Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, he said he had developed a comprehensive blueprint that would bring together technology, intelligence and effective coordination in the fight against insecurity in the district.
According to him, “Security and welfare of the people will be given priority attention if I am elected to the Senate next year.
“On insecurity, the situation in Benue South has persisted because of lack of blueprint on how to deal with it.
“We intend to put in place a robust Command and Control Centre in Otukpo and deploy technology to tackle the menace. We will be intentional in our approach.”
Olofu also unveiled plans to strengthen educational support for indigent students across the district, saying his intervention in the sector was already yielding results.
He disclosed that 100 students of tertiary institutions were currently benefiting from his N100,000 scholarship scheme, promising to raise the amount substantially if elected.
“At the moment, I have 100 students of tertiary institutions who are on N100,000 scholarship. When elected, I will increase that to N500,000,” he said.
The former commissioner also identified healthcare as another area that would receive priority attention under his proposed representation.
According to him, he had already introduced free medical care for pregnant women and would expand the intervention to reach more constituents if given the mandate.
Olofu said his ambition was anchored on providing selfless and result-oriented representation, rather than using the office merely as a political platform.
He disclosed plans to establish the Benue South People’s Assembly and Benue South Council as mechanisms for galvanising stakeholders and coordinating development initiatives across the state.
He further promised to constitute a technical team that would develop a comprehensive development plan for Benue South, stressing that the district needed deliberate planning to address its developmental challenges.
Olofu said his proposed interventions would focus on security, education, healthcare and coordinated development, insisting that effective representation must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of constituents.
