BIPC commissions new bakery in Gboko, targets job creation and price stabilisation

The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has commissioned a new modern bakery in Gboko with a promise to boost local production, create employment opportunities, and stabilize the price of bread across the state.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, the Group Managing Director of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, described the project as a major step toward transforming Benue into a productive, manufacturing-driven economy. He said the facility would introduce healthy competition in the market while ensuring that quality bread remains affordable for residents.

“This is not just an opening ceremony; it is a milestone of economic revitalization and a demonstration of our commitment to inclusive development,” Asemakaha stated. He noted that similar interventions in Makurdi had helped reduce bread prices, expressing confidence that Gboko would enjoy the same benefits.

He further disclosed that the bakery has created both direct and indirect jobs for bakers, sales personnel, distributors, and local suppliers, adding that the initiative provides dignity and income for families in the area. He said modalities for the next phase of the bakery project in Otukpo have already been finalized.

According to him, the expansion project forms part of BIPC’s broader industrial rollout designed to ensure that all 23 local government areas feel the economic impact of the present administration.

He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for what he described as visionary leadership and unwavering support for industrialization efforts.

Board Chairman of BIPC, Chief Elizabeth Shuluwa, said the company’s objective is to help stabilize prices of basic commodities while creating an enabling environment for private businesses to thrive. She assured residents that the new board would continue to support management in driving more community-impacting projects.

Deputy Head of Business Development Strategy, Mrs. Theresa Abeda, announced that a loaf of bread would be sold at N1,100 at the factory, while retailers are expected to sell at a capped price of N1,300.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Alumo Orpin, said the ministry would continue to support the company behind the scenes to ensure it delivers on its mandate. He urged residents to patronize the product, describing it as fresh and produced under the highest quality standards.

In a vote of thanks, Company Secretary, Barr. Terna Ioryoosu, appealed to youths to safeguard the facility, stressing that it would not only produce bread but also generate employment for them.

Representing the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ayatse, Tor Jemgbagh, HRH Chief Afatyo Ajoko, officially inaugurated the bakery, marking its operational commencement.

Residents of Gboko are expected to begin patronizing the new bakery immediately as commercial distribution commences.
