Sen. Moro condemns killing of Benue MACBAN chairman, wants perpetrators brought to justice

The Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, and his associate, Yakubu Isah, calling on security agencies to ensure those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.

Muhammad and Isah were reportedly ambushed and killed by suspected armed men on Saturday while returning from a peace meeting in Benue State.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche'Ofun John, Moro described the killings as "barbaric and unacceptable," stressing that every human life is sacred.

"All lives matter, and nobody has the moral and constitutional right to take the life of an innocent and unarmed person," the senator said.

He urged security agencies not to relent in their investigations, insisting that the perpetrators must be identified and made to face the full weight of the law.

"The security agents should go after the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice," he stated.

The lawmaker also acknowledged Governor Hyacinth Alia's swift condemnation of the killings but argued that a more proactive security strategy by the state government could have prevented the tragedy.

"It is gratifying that Governor Hyacinth Alia has found it expedient to condemn the killing of Ardo and Yakubu.

However, if the governor had been more proactive in discharging his constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property in Benue State, this unfortunate and avoidable incident might have been prevented," Moro said.

He expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and urged residents to unite in confronting the growing security challenges facing the state.

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and call on all stakeholders to work together to stem the tide of insecurity in Benue State," he added.

The killing of the MACBAN chairman has sparked widespread condemnation, with political leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice for the victims.
