Female Pastor sparks outrage after urging married women to hand over salaries to husbands

A female pastor has ignited widespread debate on social media following the circulation of a video in which she advised married women to surrender their entire salaries to their husbands as a mark of submission in marriage.

In the viral clip, the cleric insisted that a “virtuous woman” should fully submit her income to her spouse, allowing him to decide how much, if any, she is permitted to spend. “Your full salary should go to your husband. If he decides to give you some, that is his choice,” she declared.

To support her stance, the pastor cited her personal experience, revealing that her husband effectively controls her salary account. According to her, she earns about ₦200,000 monthly but does not access the money without her husband’s approval.

She described the arrangement as an expression of true marital submission, stressing that marriages built on such principles do not operate a 50/50 financial structure. The cleric further suggested that women who find the idea difficult to accept should either embrace it or refrain from questioning it.

The remarks quickly gained traction online, drawing sharp reactions from social media users. While many criticised the message as outdated, oppressive, and demeaning to women, others defended the pastor, arguing that financial arrangements in marriage are a personal choice and what works for one household may not suit another.

As the debate continues, the video has reignited broader conversations about gender roles, financial autonomy, and submission within modern marriages.
