Former Chelsea Head Coach Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly for the first time following his dismissal from the club.

The 45-year-old Italian was sacked on New Year’s Day after spending 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Maresca expressed gratitude to Chelsea supporters and players, while making no mention of the club’s ownership.

Reflecting on his time at the club, he wrote: “Leave this world a little better than you found it. My journey with Chelsea began with the preliminary rounds of the Conference League. I leave with the inner peace of leaving a prestigious club like Chelsea where it deserves to be.”

Maresca thanked fans for their backing, describing their support as vital to the team’s achievements during his tenure.

“I want to thank all the Chelsea fans for their support over the last 18 months, support that was crucial to achieving Champions League qualification, winning the Conference League, and winning the Club World Cup. Victories that I will always hold in my heart,” he said.

He also paid tribute to his squad, adding: “A special thank you to all the players who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey.”

Maresca concluded by wishing the club success for the remainder of the season and beyond, saying: “Thank you, Chelsea, from me and my family.”

Maresca’s exit followed a challenging spell in the Premier League, with Chelsea managing just one win in their last seven matches. His final game in charge was a 2–2 draw at home against Bournemouth last Tuesday.

Despite the recent struggles, Maresca leaves with silverware, having guided Chelsea to Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs during his time at the club.

Chelsea have since confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new Head Coach. The former Hull City boss joins from fellow BlueCo-owned club Strasbourg.
