Flying Eagles and Molde FK midfielder Daniel Daga has been formally charged with alleged sexual assault in Norway, an accusation the player firmly denies, insisting the encounter was consensual.
In an official statement Molde FK confirmed that the 18-year-old Nigerian midfielder has been charged following a complaint by a woman with whom he reportedly had consensual sexual relations.
Daga has categorically denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he committed no offence.
Despite his denial, the Norwegian club has placed the teenager on temporary suspension from training and match activities pending the outcome of the legal process.
Molde stated that Daga has fully cooperated with authorities, attending all police interrogations during the investigation before returning to Nigeria.
He is expected to travel back to Norway ahead of court hearings scheduled for March 2026 at the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court.
Reacting to the development, Molde chairman, Odd Ivar Moen described the situation as serious and emotionally challenging. “This is a grave matter, and we take the charges very seriously. These types of cases are extremely demanding for everyone involved,” he said.
The club also disclosed that it has been in contact with the complainant’s legal representatives, acknowledging the emotional and personal strain such cases can place on those involved.
Legal aid lawyer Anette Western Torgersen, who represents the complainant, declined to provide details but noted the seriousness of the situation, describing it as “a great burden for the victim.”
Daga’s legal team has, however, strongly rejected the allegation. His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, confirmed that while a sexual encounter occurred, it was mutual and consensual.
“My client does not plead guilty and believes he has done nothing illegal. There is no suspicion of violence or threats,” she said, adding that Daga looks forward to clearing his name in court.
Bolstad also revealed that the young midfielder has been deeply affected by the charge and was surprised the case advanced to formal prosecution after the investigation phase.
Daniel Daga joined Molde FK ahead of the 2025 season and made 17 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in midfield during his debut campaign in Norwegian football.
As legal proceedings continue, Molde FK reiterated its commitment to fairness and due process, stressing that the matter must be allowed to run its full course with respect for all parties involved.
