FG bans admission, transfer of students into SS3 nationwide

The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) across all public and private secondary schools in the country. 

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, citing growing concerns over the rising incidence of examination malpractice, including the use of so-called “special centres” during external examinations. 

According to the ministry, the policy will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, with admissions and transfers henceforth restricted strictly to Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2). 

The statement, released by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Boriowo Folasade, made it clear that admission or transfer into SS3 “will no longer be permitted under any circumstance.” 

The ministry explained that the measure is designed to discourage last-minute movement of students for examination-related advantages, ensure effective academic monitoring, and promote continuity in teaching and learning. 

It further directed school proprietors, principals, and administrators nationwide to comply fully with the new policy, warning that any violation would attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing education regulations and guidelines. 

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to the education sector, the ministry stated that the policy underscores its resolve to uphold academic standards, promote fairness, and restore the credibility of public examinations across the country.
