“After Tinubu, I’m Nigeria’s most abused politician” - Wike declares, sets 2026 timeline for Rivers politics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described himself as the most abused politician in Nigeria after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing the attacks against him to his insistence on accountability and respect for political agreements.

Wike made the remark during a thanksgiving service organised in honour of a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, at Ochiba community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The former Rivers State governor also announced that political activities in the state would officially commence in January 2026, urging his supporters to remain focused and steadfast ahead of the next political cycle.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, Wike said he is known for standing by agreements entered into in good faith and does not renege on political commitments.

He expressed appreciation to the people of Ahoada East and Ahoada West for their unwavering support over the years, particularly during the 2023 general elections.

According to him, their decision to back Tinubu at a time when many politicians were uncertain played a key role in strengthening the President’s mandate in Rivers State.

Wike appeared to criticise politicians who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that their support came late and lacked conviction.

He warned that his political camp should not be taken for granted, stressing the importance of honouring agreements ahead of future engagements.

The FCT minister further claimed that the persistent criticism directed at him is driven by personal interests, alleging that some politicians attack him for selfish gains.

Earlier in the programme, Chibudom Nwuche commended Wike for his contributions to the Ekpeye Kingdom, citing the elevation of several traditional stools during his tenure as governor.

He said Wike’s leadership left a lasting positive impact on the people, earning him sustained loyalty across the area.
