2027: Ortom dismisses viral senatorial bid claim, says it's "piece of fiction"

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that he plans to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser/Consultant, Dr. Terver Akase, the former governor described the claim as a “piece of fiction” designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary political speculation.

Akase said the report, which has gained traction online, was entirely false and should be disregarded by members of the public.

“Our attention has been drawn to yet another imaginative piece of fiction making the rounds on social media,” the statement read, noting that the claim lacks any basis in fact.

He added that although such rumours would ordinarily not warrant a response, the need to prevent unsuspecting individuals from being misled made it necessary to clarify the situation.

“Ordinarily, such a poorly scripted tale would not deserve a response. However, for the sake of unsuspecting members of the public who might mistake fiction for fact, it has become necessary to set the record straight,” Akase stated.

The aide stressed that Chief Ortom has no intention whatsoever of contesting any elective office in 2027, insisting that the former governor has made his position clear on several occasions.

“Chief Ortom has no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. He has said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly,” he said.

Akase further emphasized that Ortom remains focused on supporting democratic values and contributing to the growth of his party rather than seeking political office.

“Chief Ortom remains committed to supporting democratic ideals, strengthening his party, and offering statesmanlike guidance, not chasing elective office in 2027,” the statement added.

While appreciating the concern shown by supporters and associates, the former governor urged the public to treat the viral report as false.

“The former Governor sincerely appreciates the calls, messages, and genuine concern expressed by his supporters, friends, and party members. The public is advised to treat the report for what it is, a fabrication,” Akase stressed.
