Notorious bandit kingpin, Ado Aleiro, has reportedly suffered a major operational setback after his son, eight other family members and about 30 motorcycles were lost during an encounter in Doma village, Katsina State.

The development, according to intelligence obtained by counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, has significantly weakened the strength and mobility of Aleiro’s criminal network.

An intelligence report dated August 9 stated that none of the estimated 30 motorcycles deployed by the bandits during the encounter returned from the operation.

The report said the riders were neutralised during the clash, while Aleiro’s son and eight other members of his family were also killed.

The loss of the motorcycles is expected to affect the group’s mobility, as bandit gangs operating in the region rely heavily on motorcycles to move through difficult terrain and carry out attacks.

The reported casualties and loss of logistics are believed to have dealt a significant blow to Aleiro’s network and could limit its ability to launch further operations in the area.

However, details of the circumstances surrounding the encounter remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
